No crosswords yet :(

I went to the Allee shopping centre today because I had vague memories about another Inmedio newsagent's being there. I was right; there was one. Only that the guy working there looked at me when I asked about German magazines in general and German crossword puzzle books in particular as if I'd suddenly sprouted a second head. Why is it so strange to expect a newsagent chain that supposedly sells magazines in foreign languages to actually have the things is beyond me. Too bad, it was one of the places that I could have reached with just one tram ride, but no such luck. I've got two other places in mind, both would take me at least 40 minutes to reach, and no guarantees that they'd be worth the try, but I'll have to get there, eventually. My friend Evie said she knows a third one where she's brought English magazines before and promised to take a look - since it lays on her way home from school - and see if they have German ones as well. After that, I'll be fresh out of ideas. *sigh*

Since I was at Allee already, I paid the sewing and the craft shops a visit, too, and managed to spend a handsome amount of money on such things as craft paper, plastic clasps, hard felt sheets and iron-on lining. I also went to the Lindt chocolate shop and filled up our reserves on Lindor chocolate balls. Let's not discuss how much that cost; it was worth every cent.

Being on the shopping spree already, I also went to Interspar and, on my way home, to Lidl, to do the weekly grocery shopping. It was almost 2pm when I got home, but at least I won't have to leave the house until Friday or so. Which is a relief, considering the promised 30+°C temperatures. Heat really isn't my thing.

I was pretty much flattened after this. Fortunately, I didn't have to cook today. We had leftover soup and the last of the Steppdeckenkuchen, which made us both very content. I managed to write another scene for "Charmed into Darkness", watched some telly and had a nice, long phone call from my friend Evie. And now it's evening again.

Keeping my fingers crossed you can find the German crossword puzzles somewhere.

Thanks, I have the feeling that I'll need a great deal of luck for that.

Maybe you could try for German crosswords online?
Though I have to confess I have never had a satisfactory online crossword experience. Either there are too many ads, or the crossword is too American (why on earth would I know the names of American sports teams? I’m neither American nor a sports lover) or just too easy or too hard. Why is it so hard to find a good crossword online? So maybe avoid that altogether frustrating experience! Even the apps are dismal.

There are certain things I prefer to do manually. Like writing the first draft of my stories. And crosswords. There is something very satisfying with using paper and a pen. A screen just doesn't give the same experience.

My husband does The Guardian ones online — there is an enormous archive of them and they are not American orientated, being a UK newspaper.

Oh that sounds good. I’ll give it a go. Navigating UK culture is much easier for this Australian than negotiating US sports team mascots!

I'm afraid online just doesn't do it for me. I'm very old-fashioned in certain areas: I need my crosswords on paper.

I could try to scan you some of mine and send you per e-mail. But the ones hubby bought at Lidl are so easy that it takes me less than five minutes to finish one. You will still need a printer to print them out...

I do have a printer, and if I fail in my quest to find anything I could buy, I'll come back to your generous offer. Thanks so much!

Is there any email address on the magazine? Maybe you could write to the publisher and ask if they know of anyone they supply to.

Hmmm, I haven't thought of that. Worth a try, though. Thanks for the idea.

Can you telephone the places to inquire whether they carry the crossword books?
Also, what is the title/company name/brand of the crossword books. Can you post a photo of one as an example?
Maybe they can be found online for purchasing or individually or a mail-order subscription.
I searched Amazon for German Crossword Books and got many results so possibly a friend can order them for you.
I hope you find some! I know how you must miss them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to consult someone who — unlike me — isn't absolutely hopeless at online purchasing.
