Today we had a visit from our talkative chiropodist lady. It was high time as we had claws on our feet like carnivorous dinosaurs. She usually does a good job, and today she was actually capable of talking and working at the same time. We were getting cautiously optimistic - a big mistake! Because after she was done with us, she complained for roughly 40 minutes about her husband and her son who are, admittedly, both jerks, but this is a story we've heard before - several times.

During the process I burned our midday meal that I had cooked yesterday, so that I wouldn't have to do too much housework today, and it became almost too late for Mum to eat before the physiotherapist would come - because making exercises on a full stomach isn't really a good thing.

After the physiotherapist's visit I went to school to fetch our eggsies; I couldn't make Mum believe that 28 eggs are more than enough for two people for a month. So we have 38 now. I'll have to bake some egg-heavy sponge cake for her 90th birthday to use up the stuff. Grrr!

At least I met a few (ex-)colleagues at school. Since it was after 4pm, nearly all kids were gone and my girls preparing to go home... it was nice.

I have a chum who is convinced that an eggcentric eggsessive egg obsession is an Eastern European trait, in contrast to a UK person who would struggle to consume more than a handful of eggs per month, and has to make a concerted effort to deliberately buy them, usually for a sporadic, specific reason. (Which is pretty much my attitude to eggs TBO.)

That's only for special occasions! And never more than one egg!

Nah, I think überdimensional sponge cakes would be the better solution.

BTW, has LJ been slow for you in the last two days as well? Or is it just me it hates?

I think for Mum it is the old hoarding effect left over from the time we were quite unromantically piss-poor: have things in reserve, in case you won't be able to find/afford them later.

Maybe the English hatred of eggs comes from only being able to buy rationed powdered eggs during the war and for some time after it... that would turn anyone into an egg-minimalist!

Oh dear. It is really difficult to get rid of someone like that, when you really do need her to continue coming.

I ended up reducing our egg order as I always seemed to have a surplus even when I did use some of them up in baking.

My biggest problem with toenails nowadays is actually reaching them!

Yeah, same here, hence the chiropodist. Plus, Mum's toenails are beyond my abilities to manage.

Hubby, daughter and I need about twenty eggs a week. At least since I have started to bake regularely! There´s a lot of meals where eggs are essential. Good thing is that the farmer nearby sells them!

The problem is, we're still living off my Christmas biscuits, so I'm not baking anything at the moment.
