Advent, Day 10

wiseheartToday was baking day again.
I made Eierbrezeln (basically marzipan pretzels) and Chocolate-hazelnut Financiers, the latter additionally to the baking master list because I had leftover egg whites to use up and we aren't that big on meringues. Besides, Financiers are the easiest thing to make and very versatile. Today I used hazelnuts instead of almonds and added grated white chocolate and a bit of rum aroma to the mix. They turned out really yummy, especially with the milk chocolate icing and the candied cherries as decoration.
I've also finished the Spitzbuben and the hazelnut hearts that needed to be glued together with jam, so this was a day well (and quickly) spent. In the short breaks in-between we watched diverse episodes of Kirstie's Homemade Christmas - Spektrum Home pays two or three episodes a day, and sometimes they run when I happen to have a short break, so it was good.
My friend Evie dropped by in the early afternoon with a bag of apples; we had another of those masked encounters at the doorstep. *g* The apples are now resting on the balcony to prevent them from going bad. I only wish I had thought of that on Monday when I was in a big hurry again and unceremoniously dropped the lovely carrots I bought at Lidl into the kitchen cupboard... where they rotted by today. *sigh* For someone who doesn't actually work anymore I'm under a lot of pressure.
And that was it for today; quite enough for one day, I'd say. Tomorrow will be laundry day, so I'm not planning any other household activities. Mum volunteered to cook, so I'll make the baking plan for the next round, but that will be all. I hope anyway. I still enjoy the baking enormously, but a day of (relative) ease will be nice.
