I've just written Part 1 to my very first 5+1 story titled "Convergence". It will be available on FF.Net within 30 minutes (or so the site tells me) and later on [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib and DW, too.

It's a side product to "Beautiful Minds", and the summary is: Five times Toshiko Sato didn't sleep with John Watson and one time she did. I think that tells you what it's about. Quite literally.

As background serve the cases from John's online blog, which have been hinted at in the series but never actually shown. Not more than a line or two of dialogue anyway. I hope the story will turn out good, I quite enjoy writing it.

I've decided to post "Final Farewells", the short, two-part coda to "Travellers Tales" to FF.Net, just to make it available in the unlikely case that anyone would be interested in such a strange mix of Dr. Who, Torchwood and 12th century Japan. Personally, I love it, but since I know that very few people share my preferences, I don't expect even as much of an outcry of enthusiasm as the main story caused - which was nigh to nothing to begin with.

Perhaps some idiot will find a typo or two again and lecture me about it in a self-important review. Story of my life.

Chapter 05 - Aftershocks has been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. It' basically the aftermath of the Battle of Canary Wharf, with major Suzie moments, some Ten-bashing and a piece of disturbing information about TW1 archivists in general and Ianto in particular.

Enjoy - or don't, it's up to you.

In case anyone is interested, I've posted Without Dreaming, a short 9th Doctor-Tosh story, to FF.Net. Yes, I can write something short, occasionally. Just not too often. ;)

Basically, it's a little vignette I couldn't quite smuggle into "Travellers' Tales" but was too fond of to let it fall onto the cutting room floor. So there it is.

Make my day???

Chapter 02 - Falling Towards Apocalypse has been just posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Tosh meets Trevor for the first time, and the Tenth Doctor makes his grand appearance. Complete with Jackie and Rose, but thankfully without Gwen *g*

Enjoy!

After having finished "Everything Changes" and written all the random scenes for the sequel that I won't be starting until, oh, my retirement or so, I've finally run out of excuses and had to force Chapter 3 of "Eye Witness" to its knees. Gah, it was a really, really bitter fight. But it seems that I've finally unblocked the way that leads to the end of this particular chapter.

I'm up to Page 12 now, which is about 2/3 of what needs to be written, but considering the fact that I had been stuck on Page 5 for a month, it's not bed. We're in the middle of the Battle of Canary Wharf (yes, I know it only says a thing to Dr Who fans, but that can't be helped), poor Rajesh Singh has just bitten the dust, albeit considerably more heroically than in canon, and Tosh has already given Rose-bloody-Tyler several pieces of her mind. That was really cathartic to write.

I'm not sure I'll manage to stuff the whole Battle into a single chapter, in which case the story will spawn another part. *sighs* But given LJ-limits, 20 pages are about the most I can upload in one post, and since I won't be able to post this to FF.Net, due to the usage of some original dialouge, I'll have to make compromises. Drat, and I so wanted to write something under 5 chapters for a change! Ah, well.

Shinies!

Someone sent me a virtual gift to cheer me up: an adorable baby otter. Go to my profile and give it a pat - it's so very cute. So, whoever you are, anonymous benefactor, thank you!

Ventured into "Alexandra" today, which is the biggest bookshop in our proximity. Got DVDs. Yeah, I know - what's new? But these were important DVDs. One of them the Bakshi animated movie "The Lord of the Rings"; I already had it on videotape, but with Hungarian dubbing - now I can watch it in English.

The other one is "Excalibur", with Nigel Terry playing Arthur. It's a film I saw as a young girl and wanted to find ever since. Now, after all those years, it's finally mine. And it even has English subtitles! Yay!

Not all Hungarian-made DVDs have; the Torchwood first season doesn't have any, and neither does the New Who Series One with Christopher Eccleston, the one I bought in Vienna. I don't know why the Germans didn't gave us subtitles, either. Sometimes the actors are not easy to understand, especially for a non-native speaker. Oh, well, at least the British take us stupid foreigners under consideration. Or, most likely, their own people with hearing problems.

My Toshiko bunny spawned again. *sighs* As if I didn't have enough unfinished stories. But such the life of a writer.

... or, in other worlds, mass updates. I chose to put up all finished stories, regardless whether all chapters have been beta read or not. Hand-coding takes forever, and when school starts, I won't have the time to do it. I can always add the corrections later, when the rest of the stuff comes back from my beta readers.

So, there were, for starters, the 3 new chapters of Sparrows:

Chapter 09 - Black Christmas

Chapter 10 - Gregory's Testimony

Epilogue

Then, to remain in the Cadfael fandom, reposting the links of the new chapters to "Vox Angelika", at the odd chance that someone might want to read them:

Chapter 06 - A Disputed Grant to Farewell

Chapter 07 - Cui Bono?

Chapter 08 - Prodigal Sons

This story is still unfinished. But at least I'm making some headway.

Finished is, on the other hand, the first adventure of Travellers' Tales, my Toshiko Sato/Ninth Doctor adventure series. The new chapters are there:

Chapter 06 - Strange Relations

Chapter 01.7 - Searching the Cosmic Ocean

Chapter 01.8 - The Kitsune

Epilogue: Full Circle

And finally, I offer the first two chapters of a Brother Cadfael/Torchwood crossover, temporarily titled "Brother Iefan":

Chapter 01 – Awakening

Chapter 02 - First Contact

As school restarts on Monday, I might not be able to write much for a while. So I wanted to have all update alerts in one post, so that the readers can find them more easily. Yeah, I still believe in the Easter Bunny, too, why are you asking?

Chapter 05 - Return to Heian-kyo has been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. In which we can witness Tosh's great romance, and the Doctor (Nine) learns a great deal about non-British citizens of 21st-century-Earth.

Have your Kleenex and insulin handy. You might need them!

The new chapter, in which Tosh meets the legendary Minamoto warlord, Yoshitsune, has been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Previous chapters are linked to the index page, which you can reach by clicking on the story title.

Enjoy!

I've posted a couple of one-shots to [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms, both offshots to the Tosh/9th Doctor tale that can be cound at [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib.

The two parts of "Final Farewell" are really short, 3 and 4 pages only, but those who follow the main story might not want to read them just yet, since they would give away the end of the Tosh/Yoshitsune arc.

The third one, however, "Breaking the Cycle", is a Japanese ghost story, sort of, including an Immortal samurai, an Eastern vampire (very different from the ones I usually write), lots and lots of swordfight and arcane arts, and, of course, a ghost - all that with a sappy, romantic ending. I was very liberal with White Wolf canon, so [livejournal.com profile] crowdaughter would probably want to lynch me for it, but I'm quite happy with the results.

Thanks my wonderful and selfless beta, the peerless [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted, Part 01.3 - Vae Victis has just been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otehrworlds_lib. Basically, it's one big, badass naval battle interspersed with Tosh and Nine's verbal sparring. Have fun!

Edit: Oh, and just for the record - the story is finished! With the intro chapter, it has ten parts altogether, so it will take some time until the whole thing is posted, but I think I'm going to collapse for tonight... or bake something delicions, to celebrate the event. This was one of my fastest, most intense works ever.

I'm having great fun with [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo, and I'm very grateful that [livejournal.com profile] altariel encouraged me to join. The people there are funny and inspiring, and I made considerable headway with my "Toshiko in 12th century Japan" story.

Also, I got a wonderful postcard from [livejournal.com profile] ithilwen, from the Grand Canyon. It's so very nice of her!

All in all: autumn break is a noble thing.

Gah. I spent 7.5 hours at school together, constantly under the kids, with only a 20-minute lunch break. Yesterday was only slightly better. I'm so brain dead it isn't even funny.

The really annoying part is that I've finally finished the big sea battle chapter of Tosh's story (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris), but haven't had the energy to type it up and post it to the usual places. Considering that it needs to gone to the beta first - yes, I actually have a beta for this one, go figure! - it won't get posted before next week, I'm afraid.

OTOH, I've managed to shock [livejournal.com profile] artemis10002000 with very smutty Merlin/Arthur stuff, so the week isn't completely lost. ;)

I think all my brain can take tonight is watching The X-Factor on German TV.

Part 01.2 - Lady Moriko has been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib.

Warning: ungodly amount of trivia re: late 12th century Japanese history.
wiseheart: (ianto)
That's what I've done in the recent weeks, whenever I had a free minute: researching 12th century Japan, aka the late Heian period, all characters from "The Tale of the Heike" and stuff concerning the early samurai era. No, I'm not writing a thesis about it - I'm writing fanfic. Dr. Who fanfic. The same story in which Toshiko is travelling with the Ninth Doctor for a while. And they just happen to land in the middle of the Battle of Dan-no-ura, in 1185.

Every halfway sane person would just look up a few facts and go on with the story. Apparently, I'm not even halfway sane. Every fact I stumble over leads to new, fascinating facts and persons I've never heard of before. It's like doing virtual digging or whatnot. It's also confusing as hell - why must all Japanese names start with at least five syllables and go upwards from there?

Also, the more I find out about that period, the more obvious it becomes that I've got no idea about anything. And it makes me dig even deeper. All that for writing fanfic; because I'm obsessed with detail and just have to know as much as possible about the environment my characters are acting in. Even if nothing of that ever appears in the actual story.

I think I'm really beyond help at this point.

New chapters to "Travellers' Tales" (9th Doctor/Tosh) and "With the Weapons of a Woman" (classic BSG) have been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Two new chapters to "Brothers-in-Arms" (a Brother Cadfael story) has been posted to [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms.

I've just posted the rough layout of my possible Tosh story to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Currently, it's just a sketch, of course, although I've got very definite ideas for some of the adventures.

The basic idea is that the Ninth Doctor would invite Tosh to be his temporary companion while Rose is visiting his family for a weekend. Since the TARDIS is a time-machine, all Tosh's adventures (about a year's worth of them) will take place during that weekend, after which she's returned to her own timeline... and to her work for pre-series Torchwood.

It's basically a Ninth Doctor serial, centered around Tosh, with cameo appearances of Jack, Suzie and Owen in the Epilogue.

So, go, read the layout and tell me what you think. Please?
