Crafting and recycling - a pencil holder

Did you think what you can make out of a used tin can? The sweet corn we ate would be sooo jealous!

Crafting is the only creative activity I'm capable of recently. I haven't written a word for ages - well for a fortnight, at the very least, which is eternity for me. Workplace situation, health problems and the stress regarding my retirement (hopefully not much longer than a years' time) are eating all my strength. I'm horribly exhausted and on the rather depressive side of things.

Creating beauty while surrounded with ugliness...

... is good for the soul. No, it really is. So, see below the candle I've decorated for a beloved colleague (one of the three brides from summer) for her birthday:

It took me all the morning, but I'm quite pleased with the results.

Still here, still alive...

... just trying to cope with the fact that I'm no longer allowed to teach - and failing. Sorry for the absence. I'll try to summarize the work-related sh*t as soon as I can get over the current bout of frustration.

Possible timeout

My internet provider (UPC) is having a spectacular breakdown, so I probably won't be online much, except at my workplace. I'll try to post and update from there, but I don't know when I'll be able to return to my usual online habits. This dratted thing's been going on for two days, some pages do load, others - the more important ones - don't, so... yeah. See you later, or so I hope.

Baffled

I've been re-watching Primeval to get my facts and the mood right for my so far untitled crossover fic (the same that's posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib), and I've also been reading a great deal of Primeval fanfic on AO3. Most of it is hardly worth reading, to be honest, but there are a few excellent stories, so the time isn't entirely wasted.

All right, I admit the whole issue isn't really important, but I needed to blow off some steam before I'd have to return to work tomorrow. More about that unpleasant topic later - if I manage to rant about it without getting a brain aneourysm.

Another bit of crafting

The last two Christmas ornaments based on recycled plastic saucers:

In other news, school has restarted, at least for us slaves. The kids are only coming next week. The fact that I won't be teaching anymore still depresses me - the sheer injustice of it! I like afternoon activities, too, but that isn't why I learned for six years and got two degrees and a couple of language proficiency exams.

Ah, well, not my responsibility if the kids won't learn any decent German, is it?

Not as good as the cheesecake ones, but still delicious.

Even more Christmas ornaments and an update

I've reached the number 10, only two more to go:

And I've pasted Chapter 3 of the Primeval/Sherlock/Torchwood crossover fic to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Still looking for a proper title, as I've already used "Everything Changes" for the first episode of the 'Sleeping Dragons' series - a shame, as it would fit so nicely. Ah, well, suggestions are welcome.

Some more Christmas ornaments

I'm up to 7 now, 5 more to go, and then I'll have to find more ugly saucers or whatever to use them as basis. *g*

So, what do you think? These are a bit too flashy, but I like them nonetheless.

Crafting and recycling again

Mum bought a dozen of these really ugly brown plastic saucers with a side handle many, many years ago, for reasons she can't remember. They have been lying in the cupboard ever since, barely used. So I asked her to give them to me and she was happy to do so. I used them to make some Christmas decoration: see below.

As always, apologies for the quality of the pictures. I'm really not a good photographer.

Still alive but not exactly kicking

It's way too hot for anything like that. My apologies for the long absence, but temperatures went up to 40°C and I wasn't capable of much.

I did a bit of writing, posted the first couple of parts of my new Primeval/Sherlock/Torchwood crossover to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib, put up the last finished chapter of The Immunity Syndrome, my latest canon-compliant TNG story, to AO3 and FF.Net, and watched a lot of athletics. We even earned two medals, which is about as much as Hungary ever achieved on an athletics world championship, so we are proud.

To those who're still around and willing to read weird sci-fi crossovers, title suggestions to the new story are welcome. It's unusual for me to start a story without a title, but this time I just can't come up with a good one. The story takes place during Series 4 and 5 of Primeval, as a 'what if', with Jack, Tosh and Ianto being present and interacting with the ARC team. Owen is a zombie, but CoE never happened, and "Exit Wounds" ended differently.

Primeval Webisode transcript #5

PRIMEVAL WEBISODE #5 – JESS & BECKER
TRANSCRIPT BY SOLEDAD

Notes from your friendly transcriber:
This transcript (and the previous ones) most likely has a lot of mistakes. I tried to interpret wherever the actors were mumbling, but let’s face it, I’m not a native speaker, and the automatically generated subtitles on YouTube are more a hindrance than any help. Sometimes I even had a hard time to figure out who was speaking!

So, if anyone finds really stupid mistakes, please tell me, so that I can correct them.

So, this was the last part. Some nice missed inside info from Becker, some tantalizing hints from Matt in the "red herring" department.

A few comments:
This is the best summary of James Lester I've ever heard.
I presume Gideon and Matt are talking about Philip, but some of it really doesn't make sense.
It's also unclear why Matt would want to have security out of their uniforms - it's a stupid idea, really, and as we can see in the series, he couldn't push it through.

A few comments to his one:
It seems that Jess and Becker have great chemistry from the beginning, despite the fact that she's supposedly 19 so he's about twice her age.
The Gideon thing is the biggest red herring in the history of episodic television.
I like it that we're told that Philip Burton is a Nobel Prize winner, certified genius, not just some megalomaniac. It makes him more interesting.

Primeval Webisode transcript #1

Due to my recent Primeval marathon, I hunted down the webisodes preceding Series 4 on the Web and transcribed them. I'm going to post the transcriptions here because I think they're very helpful in understanding what happened in Series 4 and 5.

Here we go with # 1 )

I think I know now what's triggered all that Lester/Becker fic, because otherwise I really don't see it.

Attack of the rabid plotbunny

Aka: A new story was really the last thing I needed.

Yesterday I indulged in a Primeval marathon, watching half of Series 4 in one go. Mostly because I wanted to see whether the German distributors were really idiotic enough to bring out Series 5 as the 2nd part of Series 4 before I would start hunting down Series 5. It turns out, they were. Why they did it is beyond me, but at least I can rest assured that I really have the entire series.

And then I sat down and typed up the 3-page-start of a new Primeval/Torchwood/Sherlock crossover, in which Mycroft Holmes is James Lester's superior, Tosh and Owen are still alive, Matt Anderson (the last team leader of Primeval) is a Time Agent, like Jack Harkness, and Ianto goes undercover within the ARC to find out what Philip Burton (Alexander Siddig's character) is up to.

There is a bit more to it, like the Rift having temporarily closed up, Andy Dadvidson and Mickey Smith being hired as field agents and Gwen being pregnant, but these are the basic settings. This morning I worked out a rough plot, decided which canon events from Primeval can be kept and which ones have to be changed and how the TW3 gang (well, Jack, Ianto and Tosh) can fit in with the ARC without blowing their cover.

Yes, I'm officially insane, I know.
